PANJIM: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has all but confirmed that Acting Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant will lead the state for the second time. Although the formation of the government was considerably delayed, the party dismissed apprehensions of internal differences over the next Goa CM.

“We will respect whatever the party leaders decide. We are a disciplined party. There is no doubt who the CM will be. The party leaders will make the appropriate decision. At present, the name of Dr. Sawant is endorsed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” said Subhash Phaldessai, MP for Sanguem, answering questions from the media on Friday.

He reiterated that the interim CM will rule the state again and the BJP will also win the upcoming LS polls.

Phaldessai and MPs Nilkant Halarnkar, Govind Gaude and Daji Salkar held a joint press conference to counter Congress’ attempts to show the BJP’s failure to form the government.

While hailing the Center led by Prime Minister Modi for giving good governance to the country, Phaldessai claimed that the BJP in Goa would form the government within 4-5 days. He cited Holashtak’s inauspicious period for the delay. His statement was supported by Gaude who further criticized Congress for creating unnecessary hype on the issue.

“There is no doubt about the formation of the government and who will be the leader. I call on the people of Goa to give us a clear mandate and we will honor it. We will form a stable government for the next five years , will achieve our aspirations of the people of Goa and act to the best of our abilities. We are capable of doing that,” the MP for Sanguem said, adding, “The party will give us a timeline and work accordingly… BJP will form one government in four states together. . We think that should happen in 4-5 days.”

The BJP has also taken a dig in Congress for questioning the BJP’s delaying tactics on government formation by saying the country’s big old party has not itself decided its leader in the Legislative Assembly. . Moreover, after a humiliating defeat in five states, its leader Sonia Gandhi had demanded the resignation of the chairmen of the Pradesh Congress committees, including Girish Chodankar in Goa.

Phaldessai also asked the Congress not to mislead and provoke the people by stating “this is condemnable” while pointing out that the acting CM has proven to be a good administrator under whom the BJP has swept the polls with 50% of candidates winning the seats.

The BJP also denied alleged differences within the party over the appointment of a new CM. Phaldessai said his candidates were intact before the election and are together after the results as well.
