Actor Hawkeye confirms Disney Plus MCU show’s main plot point

Hawkeye actor Jeremy Renner has confirmed that the Disney Plus series will deal with a major plot point from the Marvel comics: Clint Barton will experience hearing loss during the show.

“Hard of hearing, yes,” Renner confirmed to talk show host Jimmy Kimmel. “It’s been implemented, which is great. We’ve used the comics a lot for the look and feel of the show.”

This had been widely speculated by fans, after actors Renner and Hailee Steinfeld, who play colleague Hawkeye Kate Bishop on the show, were pictured outside a hearing clinic on set. This is one of the main storylines involving the character of Hawkeye that has yet to be explored on screen. The show draws heavily on Matt Fraction and David Aja’s acclaimed series of the Hawkeye comics.

Elsewhere in the interview, Renner confirmed when the show takes place in the MCU timeline – handy if you’re trying to catch the Marvel movies for this holiday season, which is an increasingly difficult undertaking.

“It’s current. I can tell you that it’s happening right out of its release – it’s kind of a holiday event, if you will, it’s taking place in New York City for the duration of its release,” explained Renner. “Not that it’s real time or anything, but it’s just been happening over a week in New York City over Christmas.”

Tony Dalton, best known for playing Lalo Salamanca in the Breaking Bad Better Call Saul spin-off, will feature in the series, alongside Vera Farmiga and Linda Cardellini. The first two episodes arrive on Disney Plus on November 24, with the remainder taking place weekly as the holidays approach.

The week after the finale will see The Book of Boba Fett debut on December 29 – so there’s a lot to look forward to on the streamer at the end of this year.

Marvel digs deeper

In some ways, Hawkeye’s arc in the MCU mimics the incredibly long and complicated stories that follow characters in the comics. He is a veteran soldier who fought in the Battle of New York, clashed with Tony Stark and company during the events of the Civil War, and murdered numerous criminals when his family went missing after Thanos fell. – oh, and he traveled through time himself to help stop Thanos, and saw his best friend die as a result.

It’s a parcel baggage for a character in a movie series – and this show appears to have hit the reset button, even though it clearly recognizes that it has killed people in the underworld. Her life seems more normal now, presenting this spinoff as a standalone comedy-centric series with a Christmas theme, which is quite different from killing an entire street of Yakuza thugs.

The longer the MCU lasts, the odd and complicated each character’s life will become, especially for older superheroes – arguably why removing Iron Man and Captain America when they’ve done so makes sense.

It remains to be seen how many stories Clint Barton has left him with, but this series shows that it’s not impossible to restore the status quo if a character ends up in a darker place than the viewer expects. .
