CAA assistants will now receive $ 18 per hour, as the arts agency has decided to give an overall increase of $ 15 to their support staff.
In addition, hourly CAA employees who used to see wrais at the end of the year can now get salary increases as they progress. The so-called “progressive pay model” means that hourly employees receive increases for certain job changes.
CAA is also launching a student loan wellness program available to all employees. Features include assistance in finding better interest rates. Assistants already benefit from free medical coverage.
All moves were announced at a monthly staff meeting on January 9.
The increases follow a similar move by the Verve agency last month and continue the industry’s conversation about assistants’ living wages and working conditions. These discussions began on the basis of a podcast that raised the issue, prompting the WGA board member and ABC producer to The recruit Liz Alper invented the #PayUpHollywood hash.
“It’s a good start,” Alper tweeted today. “We now see that when people speak out and allies help make their voices heard, long overdue changes can occur. While there are still improvements to be made, we are pleased that CAA has joined with Verve in being on the safe side of this issue. #PayUpHollywood
“We will be watching closely to see if other agencies and studios take similar action,” Alper added in a second tweet. “In the meantime, we encourage all support personnel and allies to continue speaking out on these issues.” CC : @DurHeartdHanna @PayUpHollywood
