Arsenal have confirmed that Joe Willock has joined Newcastle United on loan until the end of the season.
The 21-year-old has been an impressive Europa League player for Arsenal this season, scoring three goals and creating three assists in his five European appearances.
However, in Premier League terms, he has struggled for playing time, with just two starts and seven appearances, amassing 234 minutes of playing time.
The midfielder made 44 appearances for the Gunners last season, but with plenty of late appearances, and he’s at a point where he really needs to play more regularly.
He will join a Newcastle side that needs an injection of freshness, and his high-energy play can help a side with just one win in their last ten Premier League games.
Technical director Edu said of the decision: “Joe is a talented young player and an important member of our first team. It shows in the number of appearances he has made for us in recent seasons.
“At this point in his career, we decided with Joe that it would greatly benefit his development to take advantage of a loan spell by playing first-team football on a regular basis. We thank our Newcastle United counterparts for their cooperation and we wish Joe all the best with his loan transfer. “
Good luck to him at St James’ Park.
