The epic fight between Cynthia Bailey and Todd Bridges on celebrity big brother made gossip lovers on the Internet dream! Friends briefly turned foes after Bailey voted to keep former Real Housewives and covenant member Teddi Mellencamp in the house above member Bridges, who was a last-minute addition to the block. expulsion. Even though Mellencamp was rejected by the majority of the guests, Bridges felt betrayed by Bailey…even though they weren’t in the same alliance! Bridges told Bailey, “On the street you cut my throat, I cut yours.” Even though Bailey and Bridges ended up reconciling celebrity big brother home, Bailey’s fans (and even Bailey’s husband, TV host/actor Mike Hill) took to Twitter to defend the RHA alum, and things got a little intense for Bridges after he was kicked out of the house.
“As soon as I walked out, Todd grabbed me and was like, ‘Please tell Mike we made up. I don’t want him to want to fight me,’ Bailey recalled. Although Bailey told her fans that the two had made peace, she was eager to appear on E! new game show, celebrity beef, to “publicly show our fans on TV that we were good with each other”. Moderated by E! Favorite Joel McHale, Bailey and Bridges had a chicken dinner to clear up any lingering animosity between the two and also compete to win 10K for the charity of their choice. Bailey chose My Friend’s House Foundationa non-profit organization that supports Los Angelenos who are currently homeless in the inner city.
On Zoom, we got to talk to Bailey about her experience on celebrity beef, her friendship with Bridges, her budding acting career, and her attendance at the wedding of The Real Housewives Girls Ultimate Journey boyfriend, Teresa Giudice.
DECIDE: Your legendary fight with Todd Bridges in the celebrity big brother the house is the ox that will not die! What prompted you to rehash it once again?
CYNTHIA BAILEY: The feud between Todd and me was pretty much over, but the audience didn’t realize it. Our fight was quite an important moment in the celebrity big brother house, but we apologized and passed it. However, many of my fans didn’t understand and were so angry with Todd that some even wanted to fight him! I got to the last three on celebrity big brother so I was one of the last to leave. As soon as I walked out, Todd grabbed me and said, “Please tell Mike we made up. I don’t want him to want to fight me. Can you let everyone know we’re okay now? I thought to myself, “Wait, what? What is happening? Who wants to fight you? I had no idea of the excessiveness of our fight on the blogs. Anyway, I thought celebrity beef was just a great way to publicly show our fans on TV that we were good with each other.
Before this fight, you and Todd got along very well in the celebrity big brother lodge.
I connected with Todd on many different levels, especially our cooking skills which many people may not realize. Todd is a great cook, and I’m a great cook. Our old beef was the least of my worries about celebrity beef. I didn’t win anything celebrity big brother. I couldn’t win any of the competitions, but I thought, “I’ll be damned if I don’t beat that man with the kitchen today, because it’s in my wheelhouse.” After we did celebrity beef, we actually talked about doing a cooking show together. He’s one of the people I’ve been closest to since I left. celebrity big brother.
When you heard that you and Todd were going to go head-to-head to make a chicken dinner, were you excited? Are you confident in your chicken skills?
I’m one of those old school cooks. I don’t need spoons and measuring cups. Give me the bag of groceries and a stove, and I’ll be fine. I can cook pretty quickly, but I also like to make things look as good as possible. That said, I was quite confident at first. Taste-wise, though, I knew Todd was the king of seasoning. I’m very conscious of my salt intake, so I try to cook healthier, but Todd throws it all in and it’s just delicious.
You and Todd competed in a few different mini-games during the competition. Chased a spoonful of hot sauce with a piece of lemon in the hotspot challenge. What was your strategy behind that?
Listen, I thought… it works for tequila, doesn’t it?
I love a shot of tequila, and there’s nothing better than a lemon or lime to chase it away. I’m not a super spicy hot sauce girl. I was like, “Okay, the only thing that’s going to kill this is this lemon chaser.” It was just a quick reflection on the spot.
You weren’t shocked when Todd revealed to Joel that one of his former cellmates was “The Nightstalker” himself, Richard Ramirez. Were you surprised he mentioned it on celebrity beef?
I was a bit shocked that he would mention it, but after being in the celebrity big brother home with him for as long as I was, I heard many stories of his very colorful and interesting life. Honestly, I could write a book tomorrow about all the people who were in the house. We all just peeled off the layers and opened up our lives. I learned very intimate things about everyone because we had nothing to do with our time but cook, eat and talk.
The best part of celebrity beef you have been victorious!
Yes! [laughs] I never really win anything. Even though I reached the last three on celebrity big brother, I have never won a single contest. I went in celebrity beef thinking, “He’s going to beat me up,” but I knew I had a good chance because I’m as good a cook as Todd.
In addition to winning 10,000 for My Friend’s House Foundation, you also won a fake trophy…
OK. That’s what I need to talk to E! about, seriously. I finally win something, and I actually get a trophy at home, and it’s something Joel must have found in the basement of his house! [laughs] It made no sense. I don’t even remember the inscription on the trophy.
This was the Newbury Raceway Off-Road Go-Kart Finals 4th place trophy.
And I ask you, what does this have to do with celebrity beef? [laughs] Who gives a trophy like that? However, I placed it very prominently on the shelf with the other awards I have. I was so excited to walk past this Todd beef publicly. Besides, beating him made me feel good.
I couldn’t let you go without asking you the recent marriage of your former Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip co-star Teresa Giudice. You were one of the few Bravolebrities to receive an invite!
Oh, it was magical. I really connected with Teresa on the Ultimate Girls Trip. She was my favorite. She was the woman I most wanted to know. We were alike on many different levels. I am a love lover. I’m so happy she found love again. I was really excited when I met Mike, and it was like, “Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike.” She was definitely the same: “Luis, Luis, Luis, Luis.” It was just awesome to see her in this really happy space.
You two are really connected on the show.
In fact, we recently had dinner together, the four of us, Mike, myself, Luis and Teresa. Mike and Luis really connected organically. I think Mike talks to Luis more than I talk to Teresa half the time now. Just know Teresa from Real Housewives of New Jersey, I didn’t know what to expect when she came to the Turks and Caicos Islands. I was like, “Oh my God, is she going to come and knock over all the tables in the Turks and Caicos Islands? What’s going to happen?” She ended up being one of the nicest women I’ve ever met. Plus, she has amazing kids. Hats off to her, honestly.
You are now focusing on your acting career and have appeared on Lifetime’s cruel instruction and ALLBLK Terror Lake Drive, just to name a few. Do you like this new chapter of your career?
I absolutely love it. Honestly, I didn’t think it would happen so quickly. First of all, I started playing with a very humble and respectful attitude. My daughter’s father, Leon, is a very accomplished actor. I have been around this world for many, many years. I want to be clear – I haven’t had any huge roles, but I feel like I’m on the right track. If someone wants to book me for a line, I’ll go and do it just so I can get on set and work with the other actors. I want to learn and grow. However, I hope to book a serious lead by the end of the year. It’s August already, so I need all the little prayer warriors out there at Decider to pray for my dream to actually come true. OK?
Consider it done!
I feel like I’m ready. I’m ready to book a lead role in anything because I really love acting. [laughs] The only drama I want to see at this point in my life is on a set!
