George Edmundson: Derby close to finalizing Rangers defender loan deal | Football news

Rangers center-back George Edmundson heads to the Midlands before joining Derby County on a six-month loan.

Negotiations between the two clubs are almost finalized and a medical examination is expected to begin on the morning of the deadline.

Derby boss Wayne Rooney wants to beef up his defensive options and has turned to Rangers manager and former England teammate Steven Gerrard, who has decided Edmundson will get a loan spell away from Ibrox.

Edmundson has only made one appearance for Rangers in the Scottish Premiership this season – in September against Motherwell – and has undergone successful hernia surgery.

Derby appears to have repelled the interest of several league clubs to land the 23-year-old. They are also reportedly interested in signing teenage center-back Teden Mengi on loan from Rooney’s former club Manchester United.
