One of the best actors in the history of Indian cinema, Mithun Chakraborty has given so much to Bollywood that it is hard to imagine what the industry would have been like without him. There are tons of accolades to his name, but the biggest is his incredible record of 19 movie releases as a lead actor in 1989, which is unbreakable even to this day. Whether we’re talking about his unique style, his dance moves, and his dialogue, he’s simply one of the last of his kind.
The actor turned 68 last year on June 16, 2021, but can give any dancer a run for their money with his cool dance moves. For the uninitiated, Mithun Chakraborty had married Helena Luke in 1979, but the couple only separated after four months of their marriage. After which, he married the same year to iconic actress, Yogeeta Bali, and the couple had three sons, Ushmey, Mahaakshay and Namashi. They had also adopted a daughter named Dishani.

An excerpt from popular reality TV sets, Hunarbaaz doing the rounds on social media right now. In the much-shared clip, one of the show’s judges, Mithun Chakraborty, can be seen shaking a leg with his songs, Namashi Chakraborty and Mahaakshay Chakraborty. The trio danced to the iconic song, disco dancermovie, I am a disco dancer, whose music was conducted by the late legendary music composer, Bappi Lahiri. Mithun and his sons paid an exceptional tribute to the late composer. The music video is getting huge love from netizens. However, what caught everyone’s attention was that Namashi looked like a carbon copy of his father, Mithun, as he danced to disco dancer.
Late music composer and singer, Bappi Lahiri had died on February 15, 2022 due to obstructive sleep apnea at CritiCare Hospital in Mumbai. Everyone is aware of the fact that Bappi Da played a major role in Mithun’s acting career as they gave so much success to Indian cinema in their time. Once in an interview with PTI (Press Trust Of India), Mithun had spoken about Bappi Lahiri’s contribution to his career and hailed him as the only person who understood his ‘hatke’ dance style. He said:
“The best part was that Bappi da understood my dance. I brought something new – disco dancing, which was a departure from others. Bappi da understood that I dance ‘hatke’ (different) and so he started to give music accordingly. It became like 1+1=2, um jud gaye (we connected). When we became one, we gave legendary hits.

There is no doubt that Mithun Chakraborty is one of the greatest actors of all time. However, there is no denying that her fashion sense was way ahead of her time. This is why he was the most followed style icon of his generation. From bringing high fashion boots to making a style statement with denim shirts and introducing gold looks to Bollywood, Mithun Chakraborty was the undisputed king of disco and style.
