Report: La Liga side eye £150,000-a-week loan deal for Chelsea star – ASBTF | fan blog

Sevilla interested in Kepa Arrizabalaga loan

According to a report from The Sun, Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga could be offered an escape route from his misery this summer, with Sevilla keen to sign him on loan.

Kepa joined Chelsea in the summer of 2018 from Athletic Bilbao in a £71.6million deal, making him the most expensive goalkeeper in the world. However, the Spaniard struggled to live up to expectations during his two years at Bridge.

Frank Lampard is not convinced by Kepa Arrizabalaga

Last year was dominated by his controversial refusal to step down when Maurizio Sarri wanted to replace him in a game. This time around, the 25-year-old struggled for form and confidence, making mistakes that cost the team dearly.

This led to Frank Lampard benching him for a series of games earlier this year. Despite eventually returning to the starting XI, Kepa has yet to be convincing enough, with his performance against West Ham once again raising questions.

With Lampard looking for new goalkeeper options, Kepa has been linked with a summer exit, even though he is on loan. Valencia had been linked with a temporary switch for the Spaniard. And now Sevilla are considering a move for him as well. (h/t The Sun)

However, the report adds that the goalkeeper’s £150,000-a-week salary would pose a problem for the La Liga outfit.

Kepa, so far this season, has featured 36 times in all competitions. The Spaniard conceded 48 goals in those matches, while managing just eight clean sheets.

With Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech already signed and more income expected, it remains to be seen whether the club also have the funds to secure a new goalkeeper. If so, we might see Kepa being shown the doors in the summer.
