The Spurs defender heads to Gillingham on a six-month loan

Actual transfer news! Tottenham Hotspur academy product, centre-back and ginger-bearded Tottenham Hotspur, is on loan again, this time on a six-month contract with League One club Gillingham. You may recall Spurs beating Gillingham 5-0 in the League Cup last fall.

News of a new contract is also welcome. Ogilvie, 21, has spent much of the past two seasons on loan at League Two Stevenage, where he has done well. In Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs squad, a loan is usually a sure sign that you are NOT in his plans for the upcoming season, which would make sense given the state of Spurs’ depth chart and from kicking the tires on a number of CB’s this summer.

However, Ogilvie must be doing something right, as he has signed a contract extension and progresses from Ligue 2 to a loan in Ligue 1. At this stage of his development, he probably needs first-team games, and c It’s something he won’t get at Tottenham this season. I guess Ogilvie doesn’t have much of a long-term future at Spurs, but he’s a guy who can probably develop into a solid League One or Championship caliber defender, and ultimately that’s where he will be sold if he can find his footing there.
