The actor, who is enjoying his time on OTT, previously recalled being kicked out and replaced in films, which made him question his decision to become an actor.
On the Oye It’s Friday talk show, hosted by Farhan Akhtar, Abhishek revealed, “When Mani Ratnam offered me Yuva, my movies weren’t doing well at the box office. As an actor, I was literally finished, I had no job. I was getting kicked out of movies. After two days of filming, I was told that the film was at a standstill and I would then learn that they were filming with someone else. We’re starting to lose faith ’cause every week I was told ‘aapko acting nahi aati’ (You don’t know how to play).
The actor was so upset he consulted his actor father Amitabh Bachchan pretty much the same. He said, “One night I was thinking what was wrong, ‘maine kya galat kiya hai’. I went to dad (Amitabh Bachchan) and told him, ‘maine galti kardiya, mujhe actor nai banna chaiye tha (I made a mistake. I shouldn’t have been an actor)’.
However, Amitabh tried to restore his confidence and said, “Never talk like that. I didn’t raise you to accept defeat. Keep it up you’re getting better, I’ll let you know if you’re not doing well”
Abhishek then recalled getting a call from Mani Ratnam at this point, who wanted to meet him to discuss a movie. The actor, who thought the call was for a post-production meeting, said he was shocked when Mani offered him Yuva. He said Mani led him at a time when he was down and also said he was always indebted to him, he added: “By the grace of God, for the first time I had a good critical.”
