Zooey Deschanel loves to dress up his house for the holidays. However, she is also aware of the impact of her design choices on the environment. the New girl The star shared some of her vacation decorating tips with Showbiz Cheat Sheet. Here is what she had to say.
Zooey Deschanel prefers a living Christmas tree
Deschanel likes to reduce his waste by planting a real Christmas tree instead of buying an artificial tree. For her, the best part about having a real tree is the smell. She also likes that a living tree can be replanted.
“Nothing beats the smell of a fresh Christmas tree during the holidays!” said Deschanel. âOne of my favorite ways to be more eco-responsible this time of year is by using a living potted tree that can be planted outside after the holiday season. Living Christmas trees, with the root ball still intact, are ideal for short-term decoration during the holidays, but can be replanted to provide environmental benefits long after the holiday season has ended. Plus, it’s a great outdoor activity to do with the kids!
Zooey Deschanel builds his own crown
Instead of buying a wreath at the store, Deschanel likes to build his own. She says it’s a great opportunity to recycle using materials you have around.
âNothing says ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’ like making a Christmas wreath using natural materials that you collect yourself! Said Deschanel.
Deschanel uses some of the leftovers from his garden to spruce up his homemade wreath. She also likes to keep things interesting by inviting her children to participate in the festivities.
âI love creating my own unique wreath to put on my front door throughout the holiday season using pieces of greenery from our garden, produce from our lettuce grow stand and clippings from our Christmas tree. She continues. âI involve the children by asking them to collect leaves, berries and other natural plants from our garden for an extra festive touch! “
A citrus garland
âDried citrus is a family favorite DIY and sustainable craft that I make with my kids over the holidays – we love the organic look and festive smell that dried citrus adds to our holiday decor! Said Deschanel.
Deschanel says she aims to minimize waste by using fruit from her refrigerator that might have been forgotten. She also uses her local farmer’s market.
âTo reduce waste, I try to use oranges, lemons and grapefruits left in the fridge or buy some of the weirder produce at my local farmer’s market to give them a second life,â Deschanel shares. “All I do is thinly slice the fruit, cook over low heat for a few hours until completely dehydrated, thread the dried slices onto string and hang!” “
